Jacquelyn P. Bernhardt grew up in Pittsburg, Kansas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies from Pittsburg State University in 2002 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2006. Jacquelyn was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2006 and the Kansas Bar in 2007. She is actively involved in the Johnson County Bar Association, Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City as well as the Johnson County Family Law American Inn of Court. Jacquelyn is a recipient of the Kansas City Business Journal Best of the Bar in Family Law and she has been recognized by her peers by being selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and is listed in the Best Lawyers in America for both family law and family law mediation. Jacquelyn is a Fellow of the Johnson County Bar Foundation, a member of the Kansas Bar, Missouri Bar and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. She has presented at Continuing Legal Education seminars on the topics of discovery and dissipation of marital assets.
Jacquelyn understands that going through the family law litigation process is one of the most daunting and difficult things a person can experience. It can be stressful, emotional and put a strain on co-parenting relationships. For these reasons Jacquelyn strives to maintain civility between the parties and also with opposing counsel while still strongly advocating for her client. In addition to litigation, Jacquelyn also dedicates her practice to collaborative law and family law mediation and she is a Kansas Supreme Court approved mediator for domestic cases. Although litigation is necessary in certain cases, Jacquelyn recognizes that some cases are better served with mediation or collaborative law. Jacquelyn believes that having a non-adversarial, private and cost-effective option for parents and spouses to resolve their cases is very valuable.
When outside of the office, Jacquelyn enjoys volunteering her time and being part of various community outreach projects including Step Up and Habitat for Humanity. Jacquelyn is married and has two young children.
